Sonic - The Birth of an Icon

An excellent documentary on one of the most popular video game characters of all time.

Sonic Generations wins Collectors Edition

When it comes to collector's editions, it is traditional players always get Europeans to lose compared to American and Japanese players. Usually the collector's edition released in Europe, are always a little behind in quality and extras, but this time it seems not :) Sega Europe scores by announcing this great collector's edition of Sonic Generations !

Let's see what this edition includes celebrating the life of Sonic in all its stages:

  • A figurine with both Sonic, classic and modern
  • A replica of a ring of gold equal to the Sonic collects during games
  • An artbook "20 Years of Sonic"
  • Soundtrack of the 20th anniversary of Sonic
Also included is a documentary titled "History of Sonic: Birth of an Icon," a collection of images and exclusive interviews on the creative process of the character who became one of the biggest icons of video games.
This collection arrives in Europe on 30 November for the PS3 and X360!

The Return of Sonic CD

By the end of the year we can expect the return of the first Sonic Sega released the Mega CD: Sonic CD!

Sonic CD will be released for the X360, PS3, PC, iOS, Android and Windows Phone and this time with the original Japanese soundtrack (though it could include the American version : P .)

According to information from Sega, we are a version with enhanced graphics and widescreen format and with achivements, trophies and other features of the current platforms.

Hopefully by the middle there is an option to play the game as the original version. To criticize, just the fact of not having been announced a version for the Wii or 3DS.

8BR Ep. 2 - NEC TurboGrafx PAL

As promised, here is another episode of the Videocast 8BR, this time on the PAL version of one of the best 16-bit consoles (or maybe 8-Bit ;) ) 80: NEC TurboGrafx!

We hope you enjoy and look forward to your comments!

Documentary Sega Dreamcast

I had the opportunity to own a Sega Dreamcast at the time he left, but got one recently and I can tell you what was undoubtedly a console far ahead of his time. I will surely do an episode of the Videocast 8BR dedicated to Dreamcast, but for now I leave you with this little documentary about the rise and fall of the last (but great) console from Sega.

Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Sonic on your PS3 or X360

Sega has not released a new collection of Sonic titles to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the blue hedgehog, but promotes the anniversary on PSN and XBL through the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 20th Anniversary Event.

During this event will be available several discount Sonic titles, including some games with reductions up to 50% as the Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 and Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing.

Also new to the PSN users during this event is the launch of the demo Generations Sonic and Sonic the Hedgehog Anniversary Bundle, which consists of four Sonic games for just € 17.99, available until July 12.

Additionally, users will be able to buy XBL titles & Knucles Sonic and Sonic adventure for 240 MS points each, up to July 28.

Update: Sonic the Hedgehog Anniversary Bundle consists of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, Sonic Adventure (DX and add-on), and dynamic theme Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1.

Congratulations Sonic

Sonic is grown up, turns 20 in 2011 and Sega is sparing no efforts to celebrate the birthday of their mascot. Sonic Generations is almost here and there are plenty of compilations where we can play the older titles of the blue hedgehog.

However I still think that is lacking a collection commemorating the 20th anniversary of Sonic, with all the classics to the consoles of this generation. Are still on sale the Sonic Mega Collection Plus and Sonic Gems for the PS2, baratinhos for € 10, but for me they are not perfect. Problems? Yes, there are versions that run at 50Hz PAL : ( You could say that is a reliable experience, yes, go wrong, just like the originals ran in our Mega Drive, but after playing a Sonic 1, 2 or 3 on a console at 60Hz NTSC you'll see what speed.

The Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection for PS3 and X360 has the Sonics to 60Hz, but lack the acclaimed Sonic CD versions and Lock-On Sonic & Knucles ... with a DLC had resolved the matter, but Sega decided to get side.

So if someone from Sega 8BR go through, here's a list of games I like to have a collection of Sonic's birthday:

  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Sonic The Hedgehog 2
  • Sonic The Hedgehog 3
  • Sonic & Knucles
  • Knuckles in Sonic 2
  • Sonic 3 & Knuckles
  • Sonic CD
  • SegaSonic The Hedgehog (Sonic the Arcades yes)
  • Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island

As a bonus for the Sonics can the GameGear, Master System and Neo Geo Pocket. All running at 60Hz, without borders or slowdowns. Do this and I'll be grateful the rest of life :)

I know this will be very difficult to become a reality, so they can send me one of these spectacular statues that created for the 20th anniversary I perdouo you ;)

8BR Ep. 1 - Sega Nomad

The first episode of the videocast of the 8-Bit Revolution is now online. As voted by the readers of 8BR, a review which debuts this new format is the Sega Nomad, the second official portable Sega consoles one of the most obscure brand that never reached Europe.

We hope you enjoy!
