When Capcom released Resident Evil 4, the view of the fan base was that it would be very difficult to overcome a Resident Evil 5 its predecessor.
When we play RE5 note clearly that Capcom took everything that made RE4 a "calls-classic": the camera positions, the targeting system, the movements of the protagonist, physical attacks and even the environment, although this since we do not fight zombies Spanish "Ganados" but African zombies "Majini".
However, not everything comes from RE4. In this new title we have a constant companion throughout the adventure, rather, a partner, Sheva Alomar, who can be controlled by a second player or, if we play in single player mode, controlled by an AI extraordinary.
There have been many improvements in this respect: the graphics, now on PS3 and XBOX 360, brighten the game with a phenomenal detail and beauty, all the characters are super detailed from top to the "cannon fodder" and movements, rather natural, are the result of hours of motion capture of actors, which undoubtedly give a more realistic aspect to the characters.
In terms of gameplay, RE5 is no exception to its predecessor. Still can not shoot and move at the same time, which has always been a limitation in most titles in the series, but otherwise, we will spend too much time to shoot, switch weapons and ration / buy / sell weapons and supplies, also a constant in the series.
Take gold, weapons and items during levels is essential since this time we do not have "Merchants" the game like in RE4. As such, all purchases and sales are made between each level.
They are also frequently the areas where we use vehicles such as boats, vans across the ground, usually always with some team members to shoot hordes of Majini or on the "Bosses" that appear in the middle or the end of levels.
But this whole game mechanics are unfounded if it is not inserted into a story that completely immerse the player in the world of Resident Evil.
RE5 shows that the term "survival horror" does not mean to be fighting for survival in an environment where at night, in fact most of RE5 is set during the day and have to opportunity to see typical African natural scenery that will make us stop to admire the beauty of a sunset. Of course, all this will disappoint purists, but RE5 might make them change their mind throughout the game.
In this new chapter, we have the return of Chris Redfield now part of the BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Agency), an international group that after the extinction of the Umbrella Corporation, is dedicated to closing the terrorist organizations that still use the estate as a weapon of Umbrella .
Chris is assigned to Africa after learning that there is an epidemic in some areas of the country, where he meets up with Sheva Alomar, a member of the BSAA African division in order to join teams that are already on the ground to investigate and neutralize threats resulting from the epidemic.
Not wanting to go into great detail to avoid spoilers, the bonds will be obvious this title with other titles in the series and will be given answers to questions that have been up since the original Resident Evil.
Besides the single player mode, multiplayer was also quite concerned, it is possible to co-op between players, either online or locally with a second command. There currently is also available as DLC versus mode, consisting of two modes multiplayer: Slayers in which the characters have to exterminate Majini and Survivor, which is a traditional deathmatch. Both modes support teams of four players, or two teams of two players each.
Also present in RE5, and as is tradition, we Mercenaries mode, which we access when we finish the game first.
Other positive aspects of RE5 is its re-playability, that is, each time just this title, unlock it new modes, items, characters and secrets, gives a lifetime for this great title.
To close, Resident Evil 5 is an excellent game, worthy of the name of the series. Introduces some changes that may not please the purists more fans, but no doubt that their action and gameplay will appeal to newcomers to the Resident Evil universe.
