Since Sega stopped making consoles, Sonic games are dumped into the market to kick. It's Sonic with Mario, Sonic is the bandwagon with the usual version of Sonic is the Twilight werewolf, so ... we will still play Sonic in a microwave.
Last year, Sega decided to toast the fans of the old hedgehog with another title, this time a special Sonic, the Sonic 4 almost messianic in 2.5D (better 2D and 3D). I must say I was excited about this title, something that did not happen with a Sonic game for many years. I love Sonic games. Understand yourself, Sonic games until the death of the series to 3D, because from there I can not find any joke. To me, Sonic is to play in 2D, always leading the way by various enemies, such as Yuji Naka originally envisioned. It was not until the Sonic & Knuckles and that's how I continue to play.
Initial images showed that Sega Sonic 4 (Project Needlemouse) left millions of fans into delirium, some positively, others negatively. For my part there was the benefit of the doubt, after all it was a game in development and much could change. And it has changed. Sega changed the style to some of the graphics in the game, at the request of many fans, who rejoiced to have their wishes met. In the final testing phase of the game, a beta version is accidentally put on PartnerNet , a version of Xbox Live for developers, and start rumors that the physics of the game is completely aberrant, very different from all other classic titles in 2D.
4 Sonic Episode I (yes there are at least two episodes) is released in October, and the criticisms are disparate. Some say that Sonic 4 is the best titles in the series, some say that Sega should have been quietly instead of throwing a game like that. I just bought the game at Christmas when the price dropped, because it costs me pay the price of a game by game ... or a third game ... because it is not known how many episodes will make up the game in its entirety.
My first reaction was a mixture of astonishment with despair. Graphically Sonic 4 is a dream, it's like Sonic 1 had been pulled to the sec. XXI, the soundtrack is good, but room for improvement, since the songs are not heard as happened in the other titles in the series. When I started playing my intention was to shoot with the command to the ground ... the physics of the game is really terrible. The Sonic, and has grown to be twice the size it had in the first game (and now have green contact lenses), it seems that the head weighs. The animal simply does not gain momentum ... there are times when he jumps, if not continue to press the pad in the direction he goes, he stops in the air and falls steeply. Other times a dash spin is not enough to climb the wall. Solution? Walk normally. Yes Earn maximum speed does not make Sonic climb a wall, but can simply walk and climb the wall like Spider Man A perfection. But the worst is not the physical design of the levels is rugged! The first level is good, but this is due to it being inspired by the first level of Sonic 1 and 2. The second level, Lost Labyrinth is the worst thing that appeared in a parity game of Sonic. Barriers break the flow of the game and the puzzles are not malfunctioning and intuitive. Another thing that one looks throughout the game is the amount and variety of enemies, which is little. The boss is Dr. Ivo Robotnick or Dr. Eggman and we have 10 or 11 different enemies throughout the game.
Sonic 4 is above all a game with huge potential if we manage to disregard all these problems, but at the end of the day for true fans of Sonic who is far from a tech demo ... Hopefully the second episode is an opportunity Sega to fix all these mistakes and really look at the genesis of the series and see what was done 20 years ago continues to be the best.
Sonic 4 Episode 1 is available via download for the Wii, PS3, X360 and iPhone.
