Pac-Man Championship Edition DX

If there was a game that marked the childhood of many gamers was Pac-Man, Namco's classic, which now becomes the hero eater retrogaming synonymous with ghosts.

Pac-Man had several versions over the years, who does not remember the Super Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Mania? Namco continues to feed the universe of games of your pet and this year was no exception. In early 2011, we saw one more title to the world of Pac-Man, this time an upgrade to the Pac-Man Championship Edition which is now with the prefix DX Deluxe collection the following Namco Generations .

In Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, Namco has brought the classic gameplay of the original Pac-Man to today. Pac-Man continues to eat dots and ghosts, but this time with some news. The levels are no longer static becoming as the number of points and ghosts our hero is eating increases and the speed of play which becomes blistering.

But do not think the game is so simple. When a title is released for the Xbox 360 and PS3, we are constantly competing with high-scores of all players in the world. If you want to get a good score, you need to go learn the various patterns of play in order to achieve the perfect game! As if all this were not enough, you better have your reflexes maximum because when you have 50 ghosts behind your Pac-Man, you should not make a wrong turn on the site of the labyrinth.

Pac-Man, in turn also brings new tricks up its sleeve, having pumps that can be used in limited numbers to send ghosts to the center of the maze temporarily, long enough to escape from a situation of near death. Another of the tricks of Pac-Man is able to escape in some situations using a kind of à la Matrix bullet time when ghosts are too close to him! Undoubtedly two additions to the gameplay very innovative and fun.

The game features three main modes: Score Attack in which you try to get the highest score at levels of 5 and 10 minutes, Time Attack, which consists of several levels where the player has to meet the objectives set at the beginning of each level and finally Ghost Combo consisting of levels where the player has to eat as many ghosts. For each level completed is assigned to a ranking according to the global leaderboard as already indicated above. In total there are nine "worlds", each of which can be played with various graphic styles ranging from the version of Pac-Man Atari to the style of Pac-Mania. No doubt a very special gesture from Namco to celebrate with this game, the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man.

To conclude, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX is an excellent game for any player, but above all to retrogamers and Pac-Man fans who have already had some longing for something new!

No doubt that is recommended by 8BR! Pac-Man Championship Edition DX can be purchased on Xbox Live and Playstation Network.

New models of the PSP and Wii with limitations!

Beware of Christmas shopping this year! If you are thinking about buying a Wii or a PSP do it now because the models that will be put on sale soon have some limitations.

Sony announces the PSP Gamescom 4000, the last model before the PS Vita. The PSP does not have Wi-Fi, which greatly limits the level of console multiplayer games and other features that require online connectivity. The price of this "new" PSP will be € 99.

Nintendo going the same way with the Wii, to combat the fall in price of the PS3 and throws an unsupported version for GameCube games and controllers in order to lower the price of the console.

Micro Men

Since we spoke of this great milestone in the history of computers and video games that was the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, but it never hurts to know the details of the early life of the 80 micro computers.

Recently I got to know a Portuguese blog dedicated to retro gaming called Archeogamer with great focus on the Spectrum. Was reading some articles this excellent blog that I learned of the existence of Micro Men, a docudrama made by the BBC which has precisely the origin of the revolution of the microcomputer industry in the UK, as well as the race to the top of his figures more prominent: Sir Clive Sinclair and Chris Curry (founder of Acorn Computers).

Micro Men is a movie very interesting and despite some inconsistencies, it is still an accurate portrayal of the time. If you are interested, you can see the movie this playlist on YouTube :)

25 Years of Metroid

One of the reasons why Nintendo continues today to be successful are their long-standing franchises. Last year Super Mario Bros. celebrated 25 years this year The Legend of Zelda also reached the quarter-century, but is not the only franchise of giant Nippon to be congratulated.

In 1986, more precisely on August 6, Nintendo launched its first game with a more black, inspired by science fiction films of the time, like Alien, we are clearly talking about Metroid.

In a hostile environment and without much color, the player's mission was to take Samus Aran, a bounty hunter, to explore an alien planet, without having much information to start. With the passage of time that we realized that we are not in the skin of a man but a woman, protected by a cybernetic armor, able to go evolving and gaining new weapons and features.

Besides the already mentioned, the need to explore various huge levels more than once, the suspense generated by the game environment, the feeling of loneliness, all this makes a successful Metroid, when the first Nintendo game aimed at an audience more mature than their previous franchises.

Gunpey Yokoi, the master, thus creating a new universe, a new franchise, perhaps a little loved by some within the Nintendo, but still remains very much alive and healthy.

The balance of the last 25 years is positive, the Metroid saga has many titles and we can only hope that these next 25 years bring many more, always with the same excellent quality that Nintendo has us accustomed to.

The negative criticism, is just the fact that by Nintendo saw nothing on the celebration of this day ... but no matter, we the fans will never forget!

Metroid Congratulations!
