If there was a term that was used in the 80 and 90 was "Arcade port" or "Arcade Version," because it was common for games to be released for the arcades and only later on consoles and home computers. The hardware of the arcade was more potent than the rest and was in the arcades who knew the first news, it was here that the action was.

Today it is different, are almost dead arcade around the world except in Japan, and are consoles and receiving PCs most games. However, there is a group of independent game developers called BitCollective , who is trying to change this paradigm and are revive arcades with Winnitron 1000 .

The idea is Winnitron 1000 re-make old arcade cabinets, found in "graveyards arcades" and transform them so as to be able to play games developed by BitCollective thus stimulating other independent developers to create new games.

The initiative originated in Winnipeg in Canada, and has spread to the Netherlands, Brazil, New Zealand and the United States. It would be interesting to see this initiative come to Portugal, especially when we have several arcade enthusiasts ;)
