Video Games Live Postponed!

The Video Games Live has been officially postponed to a date still undefined at this time we do not have more information but as soon as there is news indicate the new date of the event.

Gamepad of PlaySega

Sega has already started to send the service offered Gamepads PlaySega that we mentioned here previously.

Aesthetically the gamepad is a replica of the Japanese Saturn pad with some changes in color. I do not know if the level of construction is also similar because they do not have any to compare, but is light and the plastic is good quality.

I tested it on a Mac and it works perfectly, the same should happen to Windows PCs and Linux. To use the PlaySega, the pad is recognized but it has to be configured by the setup menu of the emulator and other emulators like Kega Fusion procedure is the same.

The buttons respond well but they seem a little loose which does not happen with the side that are more rigid. The D-Pad I was surprised by the softness that did not appear to have and responds equally well.

In short, it is a good pad to play retro games and seems to adapt to all kinds of hands, even for those with big hands. If you subscribed to the service, your supply pad should be arriving ;)

Club Nintendo Game & Watch Japan offers

Game & Watch

Remember the little old Nintendo Game & Watch? Well, Nintendo announced the awards for Gold and Platinum members at the end of 2009 and one of them is a brand new Game & Watch to the end ... It was turning doing this for the rest of the world :)

Interview with Golgoth Studio

Golgoth Studio

If you have been following the news here in 8BR, the name Golgoth Studio you will not be strange. These gentlemen are responsible for the next remake of Toki and Joe & Mac Cavemen Ninja.

We had the opportunity to make some questions to Anthony de Sa Ferreira, director of the GS in order to better know your past, present and future.

Can you tell us a little history of Golgoth Studio? Who are you and what they did in the past within the industry of Video Games?

The history of Golgoth Studio began in September 2008 after a meeting with Philippe Dessoly in July 2008. I personally had never worked in a video game studio, the GS was my first experience in this industry. Before working as a producer on the remake of Toki and Joe & Mac, I was sales director. I lost my job during the financial crisis and after a few months of searching, I decided to make my hobby my business.

Philippe Dessoly works in the videogame industry almost from the beginning. He started on the Amiga and made, for example, conversion of Toki to the platform and it was he who created the famous character Mr. Nutz on the Super Nintendo for the now defunct Ocean France.

The last time we had news about Toki, was destined to be released digitally on XBLA and PC. Managed to make some progress with the Sony and Nintendo?

Not yet, mainly because we are always waiting for the response of approval from Microsoft, it seems it is taking much longer than I thought ... Microsoft has confirmed to us this week that the game will be evaluated in the coming days. So we need to wait a little longer. As I often say we are in a worse time for an independent studio.

But I am confident, a publisher in the UK contacted us recently due to the number of interviews and interest in the remake of Toki has had on communities of players. If Microsoft refuses Toki can always work with another publisher.

We know that Philippe Dessoly version of Toki worked on for the Amiga and that this influenced your decision to start with Toki, but because they chose Joe & Mac for the second title?

When I was looking for the license holders of Toki, were in contact with a Japanese company, the G-mode, which told us that did not have the license of Toki, but had bought most of the licenses of Data East and were looking for a studio that made versions "revisited" the securities. We asked what were the licenses and Joe & Mac was one of them.

I know Joe & Mac as well because he had played enough of the Super Nintendo version, I liked the characters because they were funny and the level design was very good and colorful. I thought it might be a good remake Golgoth Studio to do and was a game somewhat similar to Toki the level of development. After studying the project made a deal with G-mode.

You seem to orbit around titles that were big hits in the 16-bit platforms. We can expect other 2D or remakes will adopt engines 2.5 / 3D?

For now it is difficult to answer that question because we are a very small studio, so do not plan far ahead in time. Our goal is to finish and launch the Toki and Joe & Mac in 2010. Honestly, 2.5D and 3D is not what we do. If you ever want to work in 3D games will not be for Golgoth Studio.

Looking ahead, plan to continue doing remakes of classics or Golgoth come to develop a title?

Many players often ask us if we will launch an orginal title. The answer is yes but at the moment we are busy, so we do not have time to think what will be. Until I have some ideas but it is still too early to talk about it.

What is your opinion about the Retrogaming?

I note that many publishers are bringing back many retrojogos in digital distribution, but most of the time are not good works, do not have the original spirit. I think sometimes it's better to have it than not having anything, but I think often these bonds are only released digitally by monetary interests than by passion retrogaming and becomes a little embarrassing. That's why we're trying to get our remake of Toki can show the best you can do with retrojogos!

Tell us four classics that like to do a remake.

It is a difficult question but today would be:

  • Wonderboy
  • Dungeon & Dragon Shadow over Mystara
  • Zelda A Link To The Past
  • Ghouls n 'Ghosts

The most difficult question for the end :) After Joe & Mac, who's next? :)

Maybe one of those indicated in the last answer, who knows? ;)

Again Anthony, thanks for your time. Keep up your excellent work!

You're welcome, thank you too and your readers for your interest and support in relation to our work.

Alien Breed Evolution

If there was a game that marked strongly Amiga gamers around the world was undoubtedly Alien Breed, Team17's a terrifying shooter and one of the most successful titles in the 90s.

Alien Breed led us to very high levels of stress with its dark atmosphere and hordes of aliens want us to see a pool of blood.

The 17 Team is now announcing the Alien Breed Evolution, a new series title, to be distributed digitally initially for X360 (which has a temporary exclusive) and thereafter for PSN and PC. The differences are clear as you can see the video, but the atmosphere and gameplay seem to be intact, which might ensure the success of this new Alien Breed series with the fans and those who have not yet been presented to one of the best retro shooters in history of videogames.
