Digital Distribution

The last generation of consoles have a big "jump" on the integration of Internet use and functionality of their own consoles.

Internet usage in the last generation of consoles goes far beyond the ability to play online. Today we can access various content, movies, music, games and demonstrations. Paid or free, the content available digitally and distributed here to stay. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have been focusing even up to the digital distribution of games that are not in shops video games.

This sales method allows a different product management, avoiding the so-called "middle-men", and vendors who do get the games to stores. However there are other costs such as costs of IT infrastructure, development of digital distribution platforms, etc ...

But does this through distribution / sales will replace the game sales in specialty stores and hypermarkets? Probably not, at least the next 10-15 years. The Internet access are not yet mass market to a level that will completely replace traditional distribution.

In most cases, the end customer refuses to pay the same price for a game version of "downloadable" than pay a shop in a physical medium. Besides the price of the game adds to the price of a monthly Internet access, not to mention the psychological factor, or pay for something that is not very "tangible." In 90% of cases, with two versions of the same game (downloadable and normal) the end customer opts for the normal version in physical format.

But there are other factors for which it is unlikely that the distribution becomes fully digital. The fact that there are many collectors of games, usually good buyers, who perferem have games in your collection boxes within the traditional artwork, etc., than to have the console's hard drive full. The size of the hard disks and / or absence of a storage medium on consoles on factors also become prohibitive.

Other factors are lack of customer information that often unaware of the online service and age of those using the console. Marketing and product display also become partly incompatible with a digital distribution service. It is easier and more profitable to have the product on sale at various retail outlets than just a digital distribution service.

Maybe two more generations of consoles completely change this picture, but at the moment, they have a display in the boxes waiting for you :)

Secrets of Mega Man 9?

Capcom continues to letters with Mega Man 9. Since the launch of the game that have come out almost every week new additional content for the game, from new characters, new modes and levels with the right to their boss. However Capcom for the "voice" Seth Killian, the moderator / manager of Capcom Forum communities, said that there is still a secret to discover in the game and that's pretty well hidden ...

I think it should be a playable character, such as Bass or hiding some level. Wait and see! : D

I heart Gradius

Gradius, or Nemesis as it was initially released in Europe, is one of the most famous series of shoot-em-up's of all time, right there next to R-Type.

Launched the first title in 1985 in the arcades, Gradius now has more than 10 titles in the series, on multiple platforms. Gradius is considered by fans of the genre as the best shoot-em-ups, not only by the ship's weapons system, we can control through powerups, as well as the originality of the levels and enemies. At the controls of the Vic-Viper (yes, the name of the ship is the protagonist of the series), the objective is the custom, the immensity of defeating enemies and bosses, level after level. Other titles in the series have more ships to our choice as the Lord British Space Destroyer, Metalion, Sabel Tiger, Thrasher, Vixen, Alpinia, Super Cobra, Jade Knight and Falchion.

The original series has been positive, from the world of crossovers with other Gradius Konami games, such as Salamander, Parodius (which is a parody of Gradius) to the latest Otomedius Gorgeous will leave that for the XBOX 360 and has some characters anime very "well-endowed" ^ _ ^ "

If by this time are asking how to play Gradius, the answer is easy. It is likely that there is at least one series title for your console, but my choice goes to the PSP and Wii.

In PSP we have the excellent Gradius Collection Gradius Portable, or as known in Japan where we can count on Gradius, Gradius, Gradius III, Gradius IV and Gradius Gaiden all in one UMD : D As a bonus, we have access to the soundtracks of games and videos intros and endings. Konami Code included!

For the Wii Virtual Console have in the Gradius for the NES, Gradius II for the PC-Engine and Gradius III for the SNES.

Another new feature for Wii Ware is the Gradius Rebirth, a remake / remix of several titles in the series. Currently only available in Japan, Gradius Rebirth will attend the European Virtual Console next year.

Personally, I consider one of the best Gradius series of shoot-em-ups, not only to keep still the feeling of old school shooter but continue to innovate with each title. If you want to go back to "game ships," Gradius is an excellent starting point.

Trivia: Did you know that Gradius originated the term " Pew Pew Pew "due to the sound of the guns in the game?
