The Konami Code

If there was something in video games was accustomed to cheating. Early on, most games had the opportunity to enter codes to change the player's advantage. Since infinite lives, infinite energy, choose the levels you want to play ... you name it.

For those who have grown up with videogames, certain keystroke sequences are still etched in memory, as IDDQD, idkfa, Narp sword, god, etc ...

The key sequence in the picture above is the Konami Code, and is probably the most widely used code of all time. Most Konami games almost always have a cheat or a small easter egg when we introduced this code, but the most interesting is the amount publishers besides Konami that still includes this code in their games, as a "nod", a small tribute to the Konami Code.

The Konami Code was created by Kazuhisa Hashimoto, the developer responsible for the port of Konami's Gradius for the NES in 1986. When you find the game very difficult to pass during the tests, he created a code that allowed the player to have all power-ups that would normally be acquired throughout the game. When the final version of Gradius was released on the market, the code was included for forgetfulness.

Only with the game Contra for the NES is that the code would become famous. The difficulty of Contra was too high but with this code could have 30 extra lives and to pass the game became a mission possible.

Even today, all iterations Gradius react to the Konami Code, each in its own way. For example, Gradius III destroys the player's ship when it enters the code.

Today Konami Code is more than a simple "cheat code" is a cultural icon of a generation. The generation of retrogamers recognizes and easily identify the code, many even take pride in reciting the color code : D There are references to the Konami Code / Contra Code in music lyrics, t-shirts and even some sites like Digg and Google Reader, so be alert, try entering the Konami Code in games and sites, you never know when they can find something hidden!
