60,000 60,000 ... What drives people to buy a game with 2D graphics and even more with a look to come out of an NES?
The answer lies in the history of Mega Man series launched the first title in 1987 for the NES, a number of spinoffs, sequels and prequels created by Capcom. Some more faithful to the original series, other than completely estranged from the source and leave much to be desired, the fact is that the classic series (composed of the first Megaman
is what remains in the hearts of fans. The purists say that the first 3 titles are the best the series has to offer, because the gameplay is hardcore and this is one of the main features that truly defines the "style" Mega Man
When the first rumors that Capcom would be releasing a new Mega Man, was far from imagining that it would be 2D. Only later when they finally knew it would be "O" Mega Man 9, 2D graphics and 8-bit is that the fans were in tears (though not all weeping with happiness
).
Released for the Playstation Network, Wii Ware and Xbox Live Arcade, the success of Mega Man 9 was immediate and has been the target of great criticism from blogs and video games.
As a fan of the series, I do not feel disappointed, very far from it. I feel that Mega Man 9 is truly a retro title and not an adaptation of a style for the new platforms. The classic Mega Man series has some very characteristic, especially marked by a very different gameplay of most platform games. Mega Man 9 can faithfully recreate these features, even including willfully gameplay bugs present in previous titles.
Note that the Mega Man 8 was released for the Playstation and Sega Saturn 2D graphics (similar to the SNES Megaman 7 / 16 bit) and everyone thought that a possible Mega Man 9 would be in 3D or 2D graphics for HD like what Capcom did with Bionic Commando Rearmed .
However, Capcom surprised everyone by releasing a totally retro, maybe because he knew it would generate much hype but also because it would be to thank a whole generation of players with a more classic Mega Man, creating a wave of nostalgia for back in the game.
Compared with the previous games, Mega Man 9 is more like Mega Man 2. Were taken including capabilities such as the slide and the second shooting mode (fans know what I'm talking about), but the originality of the remaining weapons is great, the gameplay is not affected leaves. It also introduced a special shop where we can exchange useful powerups by screws.
Another novelty of Mega Man 9 is the ability to make more content to download the game. Here in Portugal are not yet available (as I write this post), but in the USA can now be purchased the following items:
- Endless Attack: "Test your skills on a stage without end. Try to break the record for getting the farthest. Results will be displayed in the Rankings. Not compatible with Challenges. "
- Proto Man Mode "Play the game the Proto Man You can use the shield while jumping. Some of Proto Man's abilities May differ from Mega Man's. There is the story for Proto Man Not compatible with Rankings or Challenges. "
- Hero Mode: "Play the game with the more Difficult level of enemy distribution. Not compatible with Rankings or Challenges. "
- Superhero Mode "Play the game with the super Difficult level of enemy distribution. Not compatible with Rankings or Challenges. "
- Special Stage: "Gives you another Time Attack Stage to try, including a new Boss at the end! Results will be displayed in the Rankings. Not compatible with Challenges. "
In short, Mega Man 9 is called "Blast from the Past" is the dream of the fans and retrogamers have a brand new game but it keeps all the gameplay and retro feeling that we love. Compared to the three available versions (PS3, Wii and XBox 360) I think there are many differences and despite the PS3 version, I think I'm going to burn a few points in the Wii only to have the Megaman Megaman 9 with the other VC ... finally , geek stuff ![]()

Excellent! I'm still old-player Megaman (or Rockman for the closest
).
This attitude of launching a new game is a totally retro bold idea, because it is not as well as revive an old game (as the series for SEGA PS2) Wii or Virtual Console. Is it a new game with old graphics ...
I'm curious, and even taste of this initiative at a time when 3D is no longer new, has ceased to be fashionable and now tires.
There are lots of old players like me who left the world of video games when they started to be fully 3D. These games will give the same to be purchased and played
Ruben,
the funny thing is to buy the Sonic Mega Collection (Sonic with the old and other old timers) had to order. Those who came were all sold, and it was not for the price, which initially was not even very cheap.
But I have seen some new PS3 that are absolutely unbelievable quality.
The extremes touch each other in generating interest
Richard, keep it up
What I miss playing Megaman! I still have the original box 2 guarded. Good times I spent playing this game and it is unfortunate that the software houses do not lose more time to please the players who are now in their 30s. It does not make games like they used to
