September and October will be great months for the Virtual Console for the Wii and Retrogaming.

SNK was announced yesterday by the first batch of games for the NeoGeo VC (currently still only in Japan). In this first "batch" we'll have Fatal Fury, World Heroes and Art of Fighting, punching all games or just to know NeoGeo offer. The NeoGeo games will have a price of 900 points per game and are available in Japan next week, and the rest of the world unknown.

Another great new feature for VC in October MT will be the new games of TurboGrafx-16 CD-ROM ² and TurboGrafx-16 SUPER CD-ROM ² that were recently confirmed. Promised for 2007 are 10 games, each at 800 points. These platforms have great games like Demon Castle Dracula X Rondo of Blood, Snatcher, Gates of Thunder and the Ys series.

We now expect that all these innovations come to the European VC :)

Hanabi Festival on Wii's Virtual Console

smbll.gif

hanabi_logo.jpg Well, as already mentioned here , Nintendo decided to present users of the Wii with the Hanabi Festival . During the next week's Wii Virtual Console games will provide that never saw the light of day outside Japan
The first week will be to celebrate the anniversary of Super Mario Bros.. and as such the first games coming out are the Super Mario Bros.. 2 (or Super Mario Bros. - The Lost Levels as is known in the West) and Mario's Super Picross.

The second week is the week of the festival and will be released Ninja games Ninja Gaiden and Ninja-Kun Jajamaru.

The third week (and last) week is the Sci-Fi that has games like Gradius III and Sin & Punishment.

Unfortunately these games are only available until the end of September, it is sad to see Nintendo limit this experience to future users of the Wii ... yet more festivals are already promised for the future.

Congratulations Mario

Yeah ... Mario 22 anitos.

It was on September 13, 1985 that Mario would become a star in Japan, to be released Super Mario Bros. for the NES. Despite having other roles in previous games, was in Super Mario Bros.. Mario who gained fame it has today and became the mascot of the giant Nippon.

Super Mario Bros. game is probably the most iconic of all Mario games, not only for being the best selling game of all time (40 million copies sold), but also for their music and mythical characters. It was in Super Mario Bros.. submitted to us for the first time, characters that in the future would be part of the franchise, as Toad, Princess Peach and Bowser. The latest iteration of this game is the New Super Mario Bros.. Nintendo DS which has sold relatively well, but does not compare to the success that the original had.

Mario continues to be the star of Nintendo, the franchise is getting stronger and with new titles coming out every year. The latest is Super Paper Mario for the Wii which is now released in Europe.

Regarding the Super Mario Bros.. the best way to remember is undoubtedly via the Wii's Virtual Console or through the release of the game for the Gameboy Advance.

Congratulations Mario, who continues to give us many moments of fun!

ZX Spectrum emulation

manicemu.png

Today there are two ways we can enjoy a good session with the classics retrogaming Spectrum. The first is to go to the chest, dig up the ZX, it connects to the TV and pray to the gnomes that live inside the Spectrum so it still works, tuning screw, stretching the tape cassette of the Manic Miner with a Bic pen to the point right and voila!

The second is much simpler, it is to download one of the many ZX Spectrum emulators available on the internet and hunt a few classics to play. Just after joining a few hours to waste :)

I leave you here with a list of the best emulators for various systems.

Mac OS X

- Fuse
- ZXSP
- ZX Spectrum Dashboard Widget - Required!

Windows

- Spectaculator
- Speccy

Linux / Unix

- Fuse

Nintendo DS

- DSpec
- SpeccyDS

PSP

- PSPectrum

Java 2 Micro Edition (GSM with support for Java)

- Mobile ZX

Symbian Series 60 (Nokia Mobile phone and compatible S60)

- Speccy

As for games, undoubtedly the best site is the World of Spectrum , where they can find probably any game that existed Spectrum. If you want to play online without being a download, can visit the ZXSpectrum.net :)

Enter the Spectrum

sinclair.png

April 23, 1982 would be a date remembered by many of the fans than the personal computer was probably Europe's most famous: the ZX Spectrum.

Developed in the UK by Sinclair Research, the ZX Spectrum was the 3rd model of the ZX series. The ZX Spectrum was the father of Sir Clive Marles Sinclair, English inventor that started its history in the 60 producing amplifiers and pocket calculators in the formats we now consider normal :) Sir Clive Sinclair in conjunction with Richard Altwasser (who designed the hardware) and Rick Dickinson (who designed the casing), created what would be considered the first low cost microcomputer.

With a processor 8-bit Z80A running at a staggering 3.5 MHz and 16Kb of RAM, 16K ZX Spectrum was the first computer to have the series ZX Spectrum name and was known internally as "Issue 1" seen little time after its launch have launched the Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K model "Issue 2". Users of "Issue 1" had the opportunity to purchase the expansion of 32Kb, called RAMpack which was connected to the expansion port on the computer.

The media used for the ZX Spectrum was the audio cassette, which required a connection to a tape recorder and external models only later came to be included in the computer itself.

Due to the way it was done loading the data, the Spectrum sometimes required their users to be experts in the art of the screw :) The screw, existing recorders in height, was used to fine-tune the recording heads, which could decide whether the 15-minute loading a game would be (or not) a success.

There have been several attempts to change the process and replace the data carrier tape cartridge, known as ZX Microdrives, however, that the early success secured ZX Spectrum, besides the version of Basic coming in ROM (and the keys rubber ;) ) Was precisely the distribution of the software on cassettes, which allowed a high level of piracy. Soon, the ZX Spectrum became one of the most successful computers in Europe. America had been licensed to Timex Corporation, and despite building an improved clone of the ZX Spectrum (though a bit inconsistent), the Timex never reached the same level of success for the land of Uncle Sam.

83 In the Spectrum had reached an undeniable level of fame, sold more than any computer built in the UK to date and had become a national icon. Margaret Thatcher offered a Spectrum personally to Japanese Prime Minister as a symbol of British technological prowess.
Other models followed the ZX Spectrum by Sinclair's hands, but getting the 128K Spectrum +2 and Spectrum were few who had the same success of the "Speccy" as it is affectionately called by fans.

Line Spectrum sold relatively well and was later bought by Amstrad, has developed several models specifically targeting the business market. Spectrum survived until 1992, when the 16-bit consoles from Nintendo and Sega began to gain ground in the European and American markets.

However, due to the simplicity of the hardware and operation of the Spectrum, several clones (legal and illegal) were and are still produced today, especially in countries such as China and Russia.

The Spectrum, Games and Portugal

It is said that in Portugal, include the fingers by the users of the ZX ever bought an original game. With 150 or 300 shells are obtained copies of games with photocopied covers in black and white which were often painted with markers and colored pencils at home, expected to carry the game (although some copies have quality from Spain were in color).

There were many stores that have begun to double games, were sold in stationery stores and even at trade shows, where often the business of pirated cassette ruined the experience. There are several reports of those who bought a game on Thursday and when he was trying to play, led to the beautiful melodies of José Cid. :)

A cassette recording for 3 hours gave a good collection of games and entire collections were made with less than 5 stories (+ / -25 €). In Portugal, the games were not protected by copyright law and the proliferation of pirated games has increased in short sales of the Spectrum at 200%.

The first Spectrums to enter our market by distributors were Spanish but quickly began to be imported from the UK and sold in appliance stores. Little or no publicity was given to the Spectrum, with only the last word for those who had one or knew someone who had. It was cute, little, had some rubber keys and even gave to "teach the kids to do math," not to mention the games we could play.

The first game I played in the Spectrum was Chuckie Egg, which should probably be one of the most popular games for the platform. Many were the afternoons after school at a friend's house to play Chuckie Egg. At the time the staff was limited to playing only one game due to the time it took to load the games at the Spectrum. However, competition and the desire to see the "frames" (levels) were following the real "fun factor".

Later they began to appear the magazines devoted to computer games, mostly Spanish journals that brought the "pokes, tips and maps. The most famous was probably the Micromania Portugal, the Spanish magazine in A3 size (in height) which featured listings of code to copy and then burn, many hours were lost just to have a game. Only later did the magazines began to include tapes of games and programs. Abroad, there was even television and radio programs that broadcast games and programs on audio cassettes to record and upload on your computer.

In Spectrum born great titles that formed the basis of what is today the industry of video games. It is some of those titles that I will speak here in future posts.

PSP Slim & Lite

75988_161_preview.jpg

There are few times in Europe has given special treatment by the industry of video games. Generally, markets are better served the North American and Japanese, but this time Sony has behaved well. Having released the PSP Slim & Lite in our market to September 5, 15 days before the official date for the launch in Japan, shows that Sony begins to have some consideration for the European market. Too bad the release date is not available in all colors PSPs that Sony announced, as well as accessories for this new version of PSP.
Right now the stock of S & L PSP's to hit the stores has been very little, or so it seems, because retailers still have the classic PSP for sale at the same price of the new model - € 169.99.

The News

At first glance the new PSP Slim & Lite does not seem to bring great advantages over the previous model, but after a "look" more careful, many differences are glaring. Outwardly it is noticed a significant difference in the console plastic. If the old version already accumulated "fat" and sweating of the hands, this new model is even worse because all the plastic casing to be brilliant.

As the weight and thickness of the reduced console (33% and 19% respectively), with the idea that remains is that this new model appears to be made of plastic of lower quality in comparison with the previous model. Other details such as the UMD bay also leave much to be desired, having been dramatically changed to a more simplistic design (and baratucho). The design of the Memory Stick slot has also changed its position and, looking more fragile than the previous model.

But the new PSP S & L is not only negative aspects. The Wi-Fi seems to be much more stable (and faster) than the previous model, perhaps helped by the additional 32MB of internal memory (which are now 64MB). A major criticism of the PSP was the load time of games, that in this new version is reduced by a special memory buffer (which can be turned off in the configuration of the console)

The power consumption of the new unit is smaller, which means longer battery, this battery can now be loaded when the console is connected via USB to a computer or PS3. The infrared port that has never been used in classical PSP, has been removed from the new template, resulting in place to switch from Wi-Fi connection columns also suffer a small cosmetic change, from the bottom of the console to the opposite side of the screen, there being a small improvement in the sound.

The display continues with an excellent quality, having only been increased levels of brightness to a little clearer. The analog controller, which was one of the most criticized in the previous version, aesthetically remains the same but their operation has been improved and is more fluid and controllable, and the rest of the commands that now seem to have a higher level of response.

A major advantage of the new PSP S & L is able to connect the console to a TV from a cable suitable for this purpose, unfortunately this is one of the many accessories that Sony has not released in our market. A reminder - some classic PSP accessories are not compatible with this new model, such as headphones with remote control. However there is already a new model for PSP S & L with a slightly modified design.

The new PSP firmware is version 3.60 and offers little in comparison with the above, excluding the options of own PSP Slim & Lite, Sony has included another 16 issues / funds, bringing the total to 28.

In short: Is it worth buying the new model?

Well, it all depends on what you want. I bought the new model because the last month offered my classic PSP to my brother (after an episode involving my cat and a new front for the PSP : P .) If you have a previous version, I do not think it's worth buying a new one, unless you want to play / watch movies on TV or if you think the PSP classic heavy (the weight difference is really significant).

According to Sony, will soon be for sale packs with the new PSP S & L and games and / or UMDs video, such as the pack Daxter in the UMD Family Guy and some limited editions (Simpsons, Spiderman and Star Wars).
Soon we will see a boom of new accessories for this model. Cases, bags, etc., all that was appropriate for the PSP earlier will probably have a new version. If you want to see some accessories for PSP Slim & Lite here is the link to the Play-Asia .

As for the future of the PSP in 2008 is expected in two applications of weight: Go! Messenger, which allows voice and video chat (if you possess a Go! Cam and headset with microphone) and Go! Explore using the accessory GPS for PSP, turning the laptop into a true GPS unit with the ability to update maps and other features.

Maybe 2008 is the year that Sony PSP users to compensate for the bad treatment that the console has had ... is to wait and see.
